Millville Motocross Round: Martin’s Remarkable Comeback Performance
In an inspiring return to racing, Jeremy Martin of Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing secured a remarkable second overall finish at the AMA Pro Motocross Championship round at Millville, demonstrating significant improvement from his earlier performances this season. After battling injuries, including concussions, Martin had not claimed a moto victory since 2021 and was initially positioned as a VIP host at Supercross events before being offered a competitive ride this season.
Competing against a tough field, Martin turned in a strong 3-1 performance, finishing just behind teammate Haiden Deegan. This result marks a substantial advancement from his previous outings, where he finished with 20-20 scores in the opening round and crashed out in the second round.
"In all honesty, I was terrible the first two rounds," Martin stated. "If I would have gone 5-5 today, that would have been a win for me. After Southwick, I had about five days on the bike, and I told the team I needed a start map that was foolproof. Brad Hoffman delivered, and I got two holeshots today. Insane."
His performance at Millville underscored that starts are not merely a function of horsepower; they are also influenced by mindset and adrenaline. In the second moto, Martin notably gained an early lead, even surpassing Deegan off the start.
Reflecting on his return to competitive racing, Martin commented, "It was a fairy tale kind of ending to my career. I was doing the VIP gig before, and my practice starts were all over the place. After a break, I got everything better, and this is a dream day."
Martin’s accolades did not stop at his own accomplishments; he voiced admiration for rising talents like Jo Shimoda and Haiden Deegan, acknowledging the competition. “The next generation’s speed is insane. I was good back in my day, but these guys are really good now."
Deegan, recognizing Martin’s tenacity, remarked, "Age is just a number clearly for him. He was moving today, and I’ve got to give props to him."
Martin’s performance at Millville is poised to reignite his racing career, providing a narrative of resilience and skill in the competitive realm of motocross.
