Marchbanks Secures First Podium Finish at Washougal
Washougal, WA – In a thrilling display at the Washougal Motocross Park, Jordan Marchbanks achieved his first podium finish in the 2023 season, claiming third overall with a strong performance that included finishes of 3rd and 4th in the two motos.
Marchbanks demonstrated notable resilience throughout the event, shadowing Haiden Deegan, who ultimately finished just ahead of him. With Seth Hammaker in front, Marchbanks opted to secure his position rather than risk a last-minute confrontation for second place. “I definitely tried to fight for it at the end,” Marchbanks reflected. “But I have the podium, it’s my first one. I don’t want to be an idiot and try to, you know, send it for third [place].”
The decision to consolidate his position underscores his focus on long-term goals amidst the competitive pressures of elite motocross racing. "Take the small wins like today and build from it," he noted. Over the course of the summer, Marchbanks has been distinguished by his capacity to make impressive passes, a skill he attributes to his historical struggles with starting.
“I’ve always just been a super big kid,” he said. “Supercross was the only one I could kind of start somewhat well on. I hope one day I can figure it out and just start up front so I’m not passing guys all the time.”
Marchbanks’ strategic approach highlights a significant maturation in his racing tactics as he continues to develop his skills within the demanding landscape of professional motocross.
