WSR to Enter GT Racing in 2026
West Surrey Racing (WSR), a prominent player in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) with 18 titles since 2009, has announced its foray into high-level GT racing set for 2026. This marks WSR’s expansion into the GT arena and will run concurrently with its successful touring car program.
The team is currently evaluating participation in GT3 and GT4 categories, including series such as the British GT, GT World Challenge Europe, the 24H Series, and GT4 European Series, as well as single-make championships.
“GT racing is now at an all-time high, making this the perfect moment to move into the space alongside our BTCC programme,” stated WSR team principal Dick Bennetts. He emphasized that this initiative has been in consideration for several years.
Further, sporting and operations director Carl Mitchell noted, “We are currently in dialogue with several of GT racing’s most prominent manufacturers.” He highlighted the team’s capability to compete across GT3, GT4, or single-make series and expressed confidence in WSR’s diverse track record.
Specifics on manufacturer partnerships and program details will be disclosed in subsequent announcements.
