Cole Davies Secures First Moto Victory in AMA Pro Motocross Championship
Cole Davies, riding for Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing, achieved a significant milestone by claiming his maiden moto victory in the AMA Pro Motocross Championship at Budds Creek. This follows a promising rookie season in Monster Energy AMA Supercross, where he secured four podiums and two main event wins, finishing second in the 250SX West Division Championship behind teammate Haiden Deegan.
Davies entered the Pro Motocross season after a challenging recovery from injuries sustained in a qualifying crash with Jordon Smith, which resulted in a broken arm and nose. His comeback began at the Unadilla National, where he finished 23rd in both motos, earning 26th overall. Reflecting on the experience, Davies stated, “First weekend back is done and dusted. It’s not the result we wanted, but it’s good to get some gate drops and leave Unadilla healthy.”
In his second Pro Motocross outing at Budds Creek, Davies displayed solid form by initially running in the top ten. The race was halted before it could complete a full lap due to red flags, leading to penalties for multiple riders who jumped obstacles during the stoppage, including Deegan and Jo Shimoda. Following the restart, Davies found himself in a leading position after Tom Vialle’s fall. Though he was ultimately overtaken by Deegan and Shimoda during the race, subsequent penalties for both riders elevated Davies to the top spot.
The final results showed Davies as the official moto winner following the adjustments, marking a pivotal achievement in his early motocross career.
