Intersport Racing Returns to IMSA with LMP2 Entry for 2026 Season
Intersport Racing, a mainstay of American sports car racing, has announced its return to top-level competition after a 15-year hiatus. The team will field the No. 37 ORECA 07-Gibson in the 2026 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship LMP2 class, partnering with HMD Motorsports.
Led by founder Jon Field, the revived operation will be based at HMD Motorsports’ new facility in Brownsburg, Indiana. Field, who recently made an IMSA appearance at the Rolex 24 At Daytona, expressed enthusiasm about returning to the series: “I am very excited to be back in IMSA and to see the Intersport Racing name return to the paddock,” he stated. He added, “Henry and Mike operate a top-tier program in other series, and I know they are motivated to bring that same level of drive and professionalism to IMSA.”
Intersport Racing boasts a successful history in the series, including championships won in 2002 and 2005, and class victories at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring and Petit Le Mans. The team also has a notable entry history at the Le Mans 24 Hours between 2003 and 2006.
Upcoming activities include a private test at Putnam Park on September 16-17 and participation in the Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) event at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta on September 25-28. The team’s return to professional competition is set for the 2026 Daytona 24 Hours, with further announcements regarding the driver lineup forthcoming.
