Lamborghini SC63 LMDh Program Approaches Conclusion Ahead of Hiatus
As the Lamborghini SC63 LMDh program nears its conclusion at the 28th Motul Petit Le Mans, Romain Grosjean reflects on a transformative three-year journey, poised for a final push with the car’s first Evo “joker” update at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Grosjean, who has been instrumental in the program, expressed mixed emotions about the temporary pause set for 2026. “I’m sad, right? Because we’ve been building it, and we’ve been getting better and better,” he stated, commending the efforts of both Lamborghini and Riley Motorsports: “It’s a bit of a shame to see that it’s getting paused.”
Looking ahead, Grosjean is weighing his options for next season, revealing a lack of enthusiasm for a full-time switch to GT3 racing amid Lamborghini’s limited Temerario GT3 rollout. He articulated a preference for prototypes or a potential return to the IndyCar Series. “GT for a race, why not? But full-time is not something that I would pursue,” he commented, highlighting his aspirations in LMP2 and endurance races in IMSA.
In preparation for the upcoming races, Grosjean provided positive feedback on the SC63’s recent rear suspension update targeted at enhancing tire management and car compliance. He recorded an eighth-place finish in Practice 1 and improved to fourth in Practice 2, positioning him and co-driver Edoardo Mortara favorably for competition.
Grosjean has a historic affinity for Indianapolis, having secured his first pole and podium in the NTT INDYCAR Series there in 2021. Regarding car development, he emphasized, “It’s definitely going in the right direction,” acknowledging the success of the initial joker update. He noted significant improvements that should yield advantages in more challenging circuits like Petit Le Mans.
The team’s objective for the final races remains clear: “Let’s try to have one podium, that would be good,” Grosjean concluded, underscoring the shared ambition of Lamborghini and Riley Motorsports as they aim to close this chapter on a high note.
As the SC63 prepares for its last outings, the motorsport community watches closely, anticipating a strong finish to a noteworthy journey.
