Motorsports Report: Team Germany Faces Adversity at the 2025 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations
In a disappointing turn of events at the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations, Team Germany’s promising start in Saturday’s qualifying races quickly deteriorated during Sunday’s motos. Ken Roczen secured a commendable second place in the MXGP qualifying race, while Simon Längenfelder followed with a fourth in the MX2 category, setting optimistic expectations.
However, the first moto on Sunday proved disastrous for Germany. Längenfelder experienced a crash in the opening turn, resulting in him being run over by another rider and effectively ending his day. Roczen, suffering a solitary crash in the second turn of his moto, battled back from a last-place position but faced further setbacks, ultimately finishing with scores of 12th and 18th in his respective races. Maximilian Spies contributed with finishes of 22nd and 30th in the Open Class, culminating in Team Germany’s overall 15th place in the standings.
Längenfelder concluded the MX2 event in 20th place overall. In a post-race press release, he expressed his frustration:
“Not much to say. I went down on the first corner and a few guys ran over me. My shoulder was hurting a lot so we took some time to get it checked out. We need to see how it feels but it’s a shame to finish the year like this.”
Following the race, Längenfelder provided further details on Instagram, revealing that he sustained broken ribs and a fractured scapula:
“Unfortunate end to the season! Had a big start crash and got run over by quite some other guys. Right now I am feeling somewhat okay, but a few ribs are broken as well as my scapular. Let‘s heal up now👊.”
This incident marks a challenging conclusion to a successful season for Längenfelder, the 2025 MX2 FIM Motocross World Champion, and raises concerns for Team Germany as they look ahead to future competitions.
