AO Racing Confirms Continuation of Iconic Vehicles for 2024 IMSA Season
AO Racing has officially announced that their distinctive vehicles, ‘Rexy the Porsche GT3 Rawr’ and ‘Spike the LMP2 Dragon,’ will return for the 2024 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season.
Rexy, the No. 77 Porsche 911 GT3 R, enters its fourth season in IMSA and third in the GTD PRO category. Since debuting at the 2023 Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, Rexy has gained a reputation as one of the most recognizable cars in sports car racing, captivating fans of all ages. In its first full season, Rexy secured the 2024 IMSA GTD PRO Championship thanks to the efforts of Laurin Heinrich, establishing him as a leading young talent in GT3 racing. Heinrich, alongside Klaus Bachler, also clinched victory at the Sebring 12 Hours and contributed to Roxy’s first IMSA win at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca earlier in the year.
Spike, the No. 99 ORECA 07-Gibson, will embark on its third campaign in the LMP2 category. Team Owner PJ Hyett has emerged as a prominent Bronze driver, winning the LMP2 Pro/Am class at this year’s Le Mans 24 Hours in collaboration with Dane Cameron and Cadillac WTR driver Louis Delétraz. The team aims to secure the LMP2 Championship at the upcoming Motul Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, while Hyett pursues the prestigious Jim Trueman Award for an automatic invitation to the next Le Mans 24 Hours.
In addition to its IMSA efforts, AO Racing recently captured the 2024 European Le Mans Series LMP2 Championship in partnership with TF Sport, who also contributed to AO’s class win at Le Mans in 2025.
Both Rexy and Spike are set to debut Halloween-themed liveries during the Petit Le Mans. Driver announcements for the upcoming 2026 season will be made at a later date.
