Lamborghini SC63 Concludes Racing Career with Strong Finish at Petit Le Mans
Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta – The Lamborghini SC63 experienced a bittersweet finale at the Motul Petit Le Mans, finishing fourth in its potential last outing. The Riley-backed Automobili Lamborghini Squadra Corse team, featuring drivers Romain Grosjean, Edoardo Mortara, and Daniil Kvyat, demonstrated marked improvement but fell short of a podium finish.
Grosjean expressed pride in the team’s performance, attributing the car’s competitive showing to a significant rear suspension upgrade introduced earlier this season. “We had a few small glitches in the pits that cost us time, but overall, P4 is the best result for the car,” Grosjean said. The No. 63 Lamborghini held second place for a significant portion of the race but lost crucial energy reserves, forcing an untimely pit stop five minutes before the finish.
“It was disappointing not to have a late caution, as we needed luck on our side today,” Grosjean lamented. “We lost four seconds on one of the stops, but ultimately the team was exceptional.”
Mortara echoed his teammate’s sentiments, emphasizing their overall pace throughout the weekend. “It’s frustrating not to finish on the podium, but we can be satisfied with our performance, considering the potential we’ve shown,” he remarked.
Riley Motorsports, which took over the SC63’s service responsibilities late in the off-season, will transition to a new GTD class program with the Ford Mustang GT3 next year. This marks the end of a challenging two-year racing career for the SC63, which faced multiple setbacks. Lamborghini has announced a pause for the program until at least 2026, raising questions about its future viability.
Despite the uncertainties, Saturday’s race served as a dignified farewell for the SC63, leaving fans hopeful for its potential revival.
