Mike Johnson Returns to the Track at Indianapolis
Indianapolis, IN – Mike Johnson, a storied figure in motorsport and former driver, is set to make a notable return to racing this weekend at the SRO GT America round at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Johnson, a veteran who peaked in his driving career with a podium at Petit Le Mans in 2005, will pilot the Pro-Sport Competition Aston Martin Vantage GT4.
Recognized for his success in the Grand-Am SRP II prototype category through his team Archangel Motorsports, Johnson’s driving legacy is often linked to his efforts in securing championships and a victory at the Rolex 24 at Daytona. After stepping away from competitive driving, Johnson transitioned to a role as a race strategist, working alongside notable figures in the industry.
This opportunity at Indianapolis comes via a collaboration between Pro-Sport Competition’s Doug Livingston and Johnson himself, marking his re-entry into the racing scene. “I’m thrilled to be back behind the wheel,” Johnson stated, emphasizing his commitment to achieving a podium finish. “The opportunity to compete at Indianapolis was simply too tempting to ignore.”
The race, part of a combined event featuring the 8 Hours of Indy, is set for Friday, October 17, at 4:50 PM ET. With only three cars entered in the GT4 bronze category, Johnson is aiming for a top-three finish to reaffirm his place among motorsport legends.
Fans can watch the race live on YouTube at the GT World channel, as Johnson looks to make a significant impact at one of motorsport’s most iconic venues.
