Deegan Prepares for 450cc Debut at Opener
In a significant step forward for his career, Haiden Deegan will compete in his first 450cc supercross race this weekend, facing a highly competitive field that includes former champions and top contenders.
Deegan, transitioning from the 250cc class where he achieved notable success, expressed his excitement about the switch. “Riding a 450 on a supercross track is definitely a dream come true,” he stated. “The power and lines you can hit on that thing are wild.”
The competition will be fierce with elite riders such as Eli Tomac (now on KTM), Ken Roczen, Jason Anderson, Justin Cooper, Joey Savatgy, Christian Craig, and Justin Hill in attendance, marking a new challenge for the second-generation rider. Deegan acknowledged the higher level of competition, mentioning, “I feel like I work best with pressure on my back. This 450 opportunity is now a goal to chase.”
His dominance in the 250 class has spurred a desire for new challenges. “I got to a point where I was pretty dominant… but now this 450 class is a whole new motivation,” he said.
Anticipation builds around his potential rivalry with Jett Lawrence, although Deegan emphasized the need to focus not just on one competitor. “There’s a lot of good guys. I gotta go out there and race some gnarly dudes on a dirt bike… I want to see where I fit in.”
This weekend’s event will also mark Deegan’s debut with Fox Racing, adding another layer of significance to his first race in the premier class. The opening race promises to set the stage for what could be an exciting new chapter in Deegan’s burgeoning career.
