FIA GT World Cup Weekend Begins in Macau
The FIA GT World Cup officially commenced in Macau, with all 16 cars set for their first practice session. Notably, Eduardo Mortara joined the track late, but the session proceeded smoothly with all participants accounted for.
In addition to the GT World Cup, the Greater Bay Area GT Cup welcomed a 19-car grid featuring eight different manufacturers. Among the participants, Darryl O’Young made a poignant farewell appearance, driving a Mercedes AMG GT4 as he retires from competitive racing.
The GT3 entries are stationed in paddock garages, while the GT4s are located in an underground car park, alongside the Toyota GR86 and Subaru BRZ competing in the Roadsports Challenge. The event also includes TCR Touring Cars, Formula Regional, F4 single-seaters, and a range of motorcycles, ensuring continuous on-track action throughout the weekend.
Local driver Yifei Ye has captured the attention of fans, embodying regional pride. The event’s merchandise, particularly the Hello Kitty-liveried Audi gear, has already drawn considerable interest, evidenced by long queues.
Coverage of the weekend’s events will be available live on YouTube, featuring commentary from David Addison and Alan Hyde. Notable figures have gathered in the paddock, including Alex Wurz supporting his sons, and multiple FIA WEC class winner Pedro Lamy offering driver advice.
As the race weekend unfolds, teams and drivers will be keen to establish their pace and strategy in this high-stakes competition.
