Sexton Adjusts to Kawasaki KX450SR, Aims for Championship
Hawaii – In preparation for the 2025 season, Chase Sexton is adapting to the Kawasaki KX450SR’s aluminum frame, marking a significant shift from his previous experience with Red Bull KTM. The rider acknowledged the distinct characteristics of the new bike, stating, “Getting back on an aluminum frame feels like more high performance. I feel it’s easier to go faster on an aluminum frame.”
Sexton emphasized the need to modify his riding style to align with the motorcycle’s capabilities, noting that the transition has required substantial adjustment, especially given his long-term familiarity with KTM bikes. “It took me so long to get used to it,” he explained. “I really had to kind of hone-in and fix some of my riding for the bike.”
After two years with KTM, Sexton expressed enthusiasm about his new environment at Kawasaki. “I want to be here at Kawasaki for a while. It’s kind of a different mindset for me. I just want to find a home and work around really good people, and I feel like I’ve found that,” he remarked, highlighting the support from his crew, including crew chief Theo Lockwood and mechanic Jason Motoya.
Looking ahead to the upcoming season, Sexton aims to reestablish himself as a winner, sharing a focus on personal improvement alongside Kawasaki’s aspirations. “Kawasaki hasn’t won in a while… We’re both looking to improve this year,” he stated. Sexton aims to approach the season strategically, emphasizing the importance of preparation: “We want to kind of let it come to us and do the work in the off-season.”
With the Anaheim opener on the horizon, Sexton is optimistic about the partnership and the potential for success with Kawasaki.
