Barcia Battles Injury Ahead of Supercross Season Opener
Justin Barcia, still recovering from a broken collarbone, aims for participation at the AMA Supercross season opener in Anaheim on January 7. After having limited time on his motorcycle since reinjuring the plated collarbone, Barcia is optimistic about returning to full form by Christmas, stating, “It revs extremely high, which is a good thing for me!”
The introduction of Ducati to the AMA Supercross circuit raises questions regarding Barcia’s performance, particularly given his strong track record at the 450SX opener over the past six years. The development of the bike, alongside teammate Dylan Ferrandis, also garners attention.
Historically, Barcia and Ferrandis have experienced tensions on the track, yet both riders indicated a willingness to put past conflicts behind them to enhance Ducati’s performance. Ferrandis remarked, “We had no problem talking or riding a little bit together on the track,” highlighting the importance of collaboration for team success.
Barcia echoed this sentiment, acknowledging their competitive spirit while also embracing the need for cooperation: “We’re grown ups and we can put that aside. We had a good first week… as long as we can make the bike the best it can be, we will be good.”
As the season approaches, both riders’ ability to work together could prove essential for Ducati’s performance in the 2023 season.
