RJ Hampshire Faces Setback While Transitioning to 450 Supercross
In a recent training session, RJ Hampshire experienced a significant crash while testing a 450cc motorcycle on a supercross track in California. The incident served as a stark reminder of the challenges posed by the powerful machine, highlighting the need for respect in this demanding discipline.
Hampshire initiated his testing regimen at the end of October and reported substantial progress during the first week. However, upon returning to Florida, he encountered difficulties while practicing with fellow competitor Malcolm Stewart. “I thought it was going to be a good change… then I got back to Florida, and it got away from me in the whoops,” Hampshire recounted.
The crash resulted in a broken scapula and a few rib fractures. “That was nothing compared to what I thought it was,” he noted, emphasizing the quick recovery. Following a two-and-a-half-week hiatus from riding, Hampshire resumed training and stated, “I’ve been back on the bike about two weeks now.”
As he adapts to the 450, Hampshire acknowledges the steep learning curve ahead. Drawing from his experience in the 450 motocross series, he remains optimistic, indicating that fans can expect him to contend for podium finishes by the end of the 17-round supercross season.
