Toyota Unveils TR010 HYBRID and Rebrands Ahead of 2026 FIA WEC Season
Toyota has announced significant developments ahead of the 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) season, featuring a new livery and name for its Hypercar competitor. The racing team, formerly known as Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe GmbH, will now operate under the name Toyota Racing GmbH, marking a strategic branding shift.
The vehicle, previously referred to as the GR010-HYBRID, is set to debut as the TR010 HYBRID. This updated Hypercar will incorporate a revised aerodynamic package and introduce a new red color scheme, reminiscent of past designs last seen in 2017. This design evolution follows two seasons of an all-black aesthetic. Toyota’s decision to revert to the traditional color palette reflects a nod to its racing heritage, with the new livery echoing a tribute car from the 1998 24 Hours of Le Mans.
This transition positions Toyota as the first manufacturer in the Le Mans Hypercar (LMH) and Le Mans Daytona hybrid (LMDh) categories to compete under two distinct model names, effectively differentiating the new TR010 HYBRID from the original GR010-HYBRID.
The TR010 HYBRID is slated to make its competitive debut at the 2026 season opener in Qatar in March. With this overhaul, Toyota aims to solidify its leadership in endurance racing, combining a refreshed identity with advanced engineering to maintain its competitive edge.
Key Points:
- New Name: TR010 HYBRID replaces GR010-HYBRID.
- Branding Shift: Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe GmbH rebranded as Toyota Racing GmbH.
- Return to Roots: Revamped livery reflects classic Toyota colors, last used in 2017.
- Historical Context: Toyota is the first to field LMH/LMDh cars under different names.
As the new season approaches, Toyota’s strategic changes underscore its commitment to innovation and tradition in the high-octane world of endurance racing.
