450SMX Class Main Event Report: Tomac Triumphs at Anaheim 1
Los Angeles, CA – The 450SMX Class Main Event at Anaheim 1 showcased high-stakes racing as the event was initially halted due to a red flag on the opening lap after a multi-rider incident. Upon resumption, Eli Tomac of the Monster Energy Yamaha team quickly took command from his teammate Jorge Prado, establishing an early lead.
Tomac delivered a dominant performance, extending his advantage throughout the 20-minute race. Ken Roczen, riding for Progressive Insurance ECSTAR Suzuki, executed an impressive charge, starting from a position deep in the top 10. Roczen surged past competitors, securing third place by overtaking Hunter Lawrence before challenging Prado for second. Despite closing the gap to 1.4 seconds behind Tomac, Roczen could not mount a serious threat for the lead.
In a career-best showing, Prado claimed his maiden Supercross podium, finishing third. However, post-race inspections revealed his KTM failed the sound test, resulting in a three-point penalty from the AMA, while he retained his finishing position.
Lawrence secured fourth place after a fierce battle with Jason Anderson of Twisted Tea Suzuki, who rounded out the top five. Defending champion Cooper Webb finished seventh, narrowly ahead of Chase Sexton, who faced multiple challenges in his debut with Monster Energy Kawasaki.
Following this win, Tomac leads the 450SMX Class standings by three points over Roczen, with Prado five points back. This event sets a competitive tone for the season ahead.
