Tomac Secures Back-to-Back Wins in San Diego
San Diego, CA – Eli Tomac of Red Bull KTM deftly navigated a competitive field to secure his second consecutive victory in the 2023 Supercross season at the San Diego event. Following his impressive showing at Anaheim 1, Tomac continued his momentum with the fastest qualifying time, setting a strong tone for the day.
In the heat race, Tomac finished second behind Ken Roczen, positioning himself well for the main event. At the start of the main, he quickly claimed third place out of the first turn. Throughout the race, Tomac demonstrated strategic patience while battling with Roczen and Hunter Lawrence.
“I tried to play the patience game,” Tomac noted post-race. “Hunter and Ken were really dicing it out, so I just tried to warm up into the race and stay on them without doing anything too wild.”
As the race progressed, Tomac executed a series of overtakes, first passing Lawrence and then reclaiming the lead from Roczen. However, the battle intensified as the race neared its conclusion.
“On the last lap, I heard a rev and saw a red fender—it was Hunter,” Tomac recounted. “I got a bit too focused on Ken and lost track of the others. I wasn’t paying attention, which nearly cost me the race.”
Despite the intensity of the competition, Tomac crossed the finish line victorious, marking another milestone for his team. He acknowledged the narrow margin of victory while expressing satisfaction with the outcome: “Great night, another win… it was close.”
This victory reinforces Tomac’s strong start to the season as he continues to showcase elite performance alongside his Red Bull KTM team.
