Jonny Edgar Aims for IMSA LMP2 Victory at Daytona
DAYTONA BEACH, FL. At only 21 years of age, AO Racing’s Jonny Edgar stands out as a formidable competitor in the motorsports arena, boasting victories across various series including Formula 3 and the FIA World Endurance Championship. However, a significant milestone remains elusive: a win in IMSA’s LMP2 category.
Last year, Edgar, alongside teammates Dane Cameron, PJ Hyett, and Christian Rasmussen, narrowly missed victory in the 24 Hours of Daytona, facing mechanical issues in the final hour with their #99 ORECA 07 – Gibson. This year, the team returns with an all-gold livery, aiming to capitalize on their past experiences.
“The LMP2 grid is very competitive with many strong teams and driver line-ups,” Edgar remarked. “While we need some luck, we have developed strong camaraderie as a team over the past year and must build on our past performance.”
Edgar transitioned to AO Racing for the 2025 season, achieving significant progress alongside the experienced Cameron. “Working with Dane has been invaluable,” he noted. “His racecraft and attention to detail have enhanced my development in endurance racing.”
In 2025, AO Racing’s LMP2 campaign was marked by ups and downs: they experienced a challenging start at the ‘36 Hours of Florida,’ followed by three consecutive podiums over the summer, and ultimately finished with strong performances, including a victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the LMP2 Pro/Am class.
“Winning in LMP2 at Le Mans was undoubtedly the highlight of our season and a key moment in regaining momentum,” Edgar said. “The team came together during summer, shifting our focus towards the championship as the season progressed.”
Despite not earning a trophy himself, Edgar played a crucial role in Cameron and Hyett securing the championship. As the season concluded, the team adopted a risk management approach, balancing competitive performance with the need to secure points.
Looking ahead to Daytona this year, Edgar’s aspiration is clear: “Winning a major race in LMP2 is my primary goal. It would be rewarding to secure that first IMSA LMP2 victory.”
With a clean slate for the upcoming race, Edgar and AO Racing are focused on achieving their goal of championship and race supremacy in the highly competitive world of IMSA racing.
