MXGP Announces Strong Field for 2026 Season
MONACO – The 2026 MXGP season promises to be a highly competitive installment of the FIM Motocross World Championship, featuring an impressive field of talent. The official teams list reveals a contingent of 15 GP winners in the MXGP class alone, combining for nearly 17 full seasons’ worth of Grand Prix victories.
Leading this formidable lineup are eight World Champions, boasting a total of 18 titles. Reigning champion Romain Febvre of Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP will defend his title, while 2025 runner-up Lucas Coenen aims to capture his first championship with Red Bull KTM Factory Racing.
The transfer market stirred excitement in early January, highlighted by the notable moves of five-time World Champions Jeffrey Herlings and Tim Gajser. Herlings joins Honda HRC, while Gajser shifts to Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP. Together, the duo holds an astonishing 164 GP wins, and both are currently acclimatizing to their new machines ahead of the season opener in Argentina.
Also returning is two-time MX2 World Champion Tom Vialle, making his MXGP debut with Honda HRC alongside Herlings and retained teammate Ruben Fernandez. Maxime Renaux, another former champion, remains with Monster Energy Yamaha, the team with which he secured the 2021 MX2 title.
Completing the roster of returning talents are former MX2 Champions Kay de Wolf, Andrea Adamo, and Pauls Jonass, who will represent Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, and Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP, respectively. De Wolf and Adamo will bring added experience, transitioning from an impressive MX2 season where they both notched multiple GP wins and finished second and third in the championship standings.
The anticipation is palpable as teams prepare for what could be a landmark season in MXGP history.
