2026 Kawasaki KX™85 and KX™112: Key Upgrades and Technical Insights
Overview
Kawasaki’s 2026 models of the KX85 and KX112 have undergone significant upgrades, focused on enhancing the performance and control for young racers. These changes position the KX series at the forefront of youth motocross competition.
Suspension Enhancements
Both models are now equipped with a fully adjustable 43mm KYB inverted front fork, which provides improved damping characteristics and bottoming resistance. The increased inner tube diameter—from 36mm to 43mm—boosts rigidity and internal clearance, leading to more effective damping adjustments. Riders benefit from a new rebound damping adjuster, complementing the existing compression adjuster, and a Kashima Coat on the outer tubes enhances lubrication and durability.
The rear suspension utilizes the proven Uni-Trak system, with updated specifications: the shock rod diameter has increased from 12.5mm to 14mm, enhancing damping capabilities, and the cylinder length has extended from 380mm to 390mm. Notably, the KX85 L and KX112 now feature a revised linkage rod that increases rear wheel travel from 10.8 inches to 12 inches, aligning performance with full-size KX models. Racers can now fine-tune the rear suspension with a new high-speed compression damping adjuster in addition to low-speed compression and rebound adjustments.
Chassis and Frame Improvements
The high-tensile steel perimeter frame supports the increased power demands while providing exceptional strength and rigidity. A 25mm extension to the steering head pipe further enhances front-end stability, leading to improved handling dynamics on the track.
Weight reduction measures include switching several components to aluminum: handlebar weight reduced from 1.5 lbs. to 1.3 lbs., steering stem from 1.0 lbs. to 0.6 lbs., and rear sprocket from 1.4 lbs. to 0.5 lbs. These modifications significantly decrease unsprung mass, optimizing rear-wheel responsiveness and acceleration control.
New Components
The 2026 KX85 also introduces the KX85 L variant, featuring 19” front and 16” rear wheels, along with updated Dunlop Geomax MX34 tires, enhancing traction and stability across diverse terrains. The aesthetic updates include a new Renthal Fatbar and ODI Lock-on grips, aligning with the latest KX styling.
Conclusion
The upgrades to the KX85 and KX112 aim to foster confidence and performance in young riders. With their advanced suspension systems and refined chassis designs, these models are positioned to enhance the racing experience and performance capabilities for the next generation of motocross competitors.
