Report on Chance Hymas’ Injury and Honda’s Current Season Challenges
Torrance, Calif. – Following a crash at the Anaheim 2 AMA Supercross event on January 24, Honda HRC Progressive rider Chance Hymas is set to undergo shoulder surgery on January 30 to repair a dislocated shoulder and labral tear. Recovery is projected to take approximately eight weeks, during which he will miss upcoming races, including the Houston SX on Saturday.
The incident occurred during the first turn when Hymas was taken down by another rider’s crash. “I was in a decent position coming into the first corner… but when I put my arm out to catch myself, I ended up dislocating my shoulder,” Hymas commented on the situation, adding that he is focused on becoming fully healthy for upcoming outdoor events.
Hondas’ 2026 AMA Supercross campaign has been notably challenging, with star riders Jett Lawrence and Jo Shimoda sidelined due to pre-season injuries. Hunter Lawrence remains a bright spot for the team, currently ranked second in the championship standings after strong performances in the opening rounds.
Brandon Wilson, Manager of Racing and Advertising at American Honda, remarked on the difficulties faced this season, emphasizing Hymas’ hard work and talent. “This season has truly put us to the test… seeing Hunter racing so well has certainly been a bright spot. We’re confident that before long, all four riders will be healthy and battling at the front,” Wilson stated.
As Honda gears up for the Houston SX, the focus will remain on recovery and preparation for Hymas, while continuing to maximize the team’s potential in the series.
