Arlington Supercross Review: No Penalties Following Red Light and Cross Flag Incidents
PICKERINGTON, Ohio — The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) confirmed today that no penalties will be imposed following the review of two contentious incidents from the Arlington Supercross, held Saturday night.
In the 250SX main event, the focus was on riders Jo Shimoda and Pierce Brown concerning the display of a red warning light. The AMA’s investigation found that the standard alert procedure was followed: the warning light indicated a potential obstacle but did not restrict jumping unless further signals were issued. All 250SX riders adhered to the rules, and thus, no penalties were assessed.
In the 450SX main event, a separate incident raised questions regarding a displayed red cross flag. At the finish line, riders, including Eli Tomac and Ken Roczen, were already committed to a jump when the flag was shown, and there were no illuminated red lights or additional signals prior to their jump. The AMA’s review concluded that riders could not reasonably be penalized due to the absence of prior warning.
The AMA emphasized its commitment to consistent enforcement of rules and rider safety. They acknowledged opportunities for procedural improvements in their lighting operations and flagging methods. For now, both classes will see no penalties from the Arlington round, as confirmed in today’s official statement from the AMA.
