IMSA Announces Throwback Theme for Monterey SportsCar Championship
Monterey, CA – The IMSA (International Motor Sports Association) has unveiled a “throwback” theme for the upcoming Monterey SportsCar Championship at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, scheduled from May 1–3. This event will honor the rich history of endurance racing by encouraging teams to showcase retro liveries and number panels that pay tribute to the sport’s legendary figures and milestones.
Mel Harder, President and General Manager of WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, emphasized the significance of this initiative: “By embracing IMSA’s history, we’re creating an experience that connects past and present, welcoming longtime fans and engaging new ones with the sights, sounds, and spirit that define this championship.”
The festivities will kick off with a “Throwback Street Party” in downtown Monterey on April 29, where fans can admire the cars, meet drivers, and preview the retro ambiance ahead of race weekend. Additional events and racing-themed activations will be hosted around the Monterey Peninsula to enhance fan engagement.
WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca is recognized for its outstanding facilities, recently receiving IMSA’s “Golden Ticket” Award. The venue will celebrate its 70th anniversary in 2027, solidifying its prominent standing in North American motorsports.
The Monterey SportsCar Championship marks the fourth round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, set to attract both dedicated fans and newcomers to the sport.
