Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich Appointed Ambassador for Legends of Le Mans Series
Former Audi Sport head Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich has been named the ambassador for the upcoming Legends of Le Mans historic racing series, set to debut at Imola as part of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) season opener next month. The series will feature LMP1, LMP2, and LMGTE cars spanning the years 2006 to 2020.
Dr. Ullrich’s connection to the event is notable, as he led Audi to an impressive 13 victories in 15 years during their tenure at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. From 1999 to 2016, under his leadership, Audi consistently achieved podium finishes, contributing to the manufacturer’s legendary status in endurance racing.
Since retiring in 2017, Ullrich has served as an advisor to the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, further solidifying his role in the sport. Following its Imola appearance, the Legends of Le Mans series will also support competitions at Spa-Francorchamps, Bahrain, and the Le Mans Classic.
This initiative aims to celebrate Audi’s historic achievements, while also broadening the appeal of endurance racing heritage.
