In a thrilling display of skill and strategy, Lucas Coenen emerged as the standout performer during the latest MXGP event, setting the fastest times in both Free and Time Practice sessions. However, reigning champion Jeffrey Herlings, despite a close second in Free Practice, faltered in Time Practice, finishing seventh.
The race commenced with Andrea Adamo (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) capturing the Holeshot, leading ahead of Herlings and Tim Gajser. Notably, Coenen commenced from the ninth gate pick, quickly maneuvering past Tom Vialle (Red Bull Ducati Factory MX Team) to regain valuable positions.
Gajser contended fiercely with Herlings, nearly losing control but managing to stay in contention. Romain Febvre (Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP) followed, overtaking Vialle for fifth early on. Seewer, competing for home fans, struggled, ultimately finishing twelfth.
As the race progressed, Coenen utilized an advantageous inside line on the back straight to effectively challenge for the lead. Herlings executed a brilliant outside move on Adamo to capture first place, with Gajser shortly following suit to demote Adamo to fourth.
Vialle faced difficulties, crashing after a collision with teammate Ruben Fernandez, and finished in a disappointing 18th position. In contrast, Coenen capitalized on the conditions, reclaiming lost ground before the rain intensified. Ultimately, Herlings held on to his lead, winning by a margin of two seconds and narrowing Coenen’s championship advantage to seven points.
Looking ahead, the competition is set to intensify on the Swiss grasslands, with weather conditions poised to play a critical role in the outcome of future races.
