BRM P351 Makes Triumphant Return to Racing After Restoration
Silverstone, UK — The BRM P351, a significant yet underachieving contender from the 1992 World Sportscar Championship, has been restored to its original form and is set to make a return to competitive racing. Unveiled at Silverstone’s Carfest, the P351 represents a storied chapter in motorsports history, known for its sleek design and the “what might have been” allure.
Originally designed with a carbon-composite monocoque, the P351 houses its original naturally aspirated 3.5-liter BRM V12 engine. This engine and its gearbox have been meticulously rebuilt by Dawson Racing, incorporating sustainable fuel technology in its overhaul. The restoration, completed by Ian Dawson, marks a significant milestone in the car’s legacy, which has included a previous life as the open-top BRM P301 with a Nissan twin-turbo V6.
“Seeing the P351 restored and back at Silverstone alongside the P15 shows just how broad the BRM story really is,” remarked Simon Owen, grandson of BRM owner Sir Alfred Owen. “This isn’t about looking backwards. The P351 was built to race, and that is exactly what we intend for it to do again.”
Since acquiring the P351 in late 2024, BRM has focused on preserving the car’s historical significance while returning it to the track, reinforcing the Owen family’s commitment to the legacy of BRM racing.
The P351’s return not only honors its past but also aims to reclaim its rightful place in motorsport, promising fans an exhilarating display of racing history reborn.
