Rutronik Racing’s Challenging Transition to Lamborghini: Progress Amidst Trials
In a season characterized by both struggle and resilience, Patric Niederhauser and Rutronik Racing have navigated significant challenges in the 2026 GT World Challenge Europe season with their new Lamborghini Temerario GT3. Following a successful campaign in 2025 with the Porsche 911 GT3 R, which included notable podiums such as a second-place finish at the Spa 24 Hours, the team’s transition to Lamborghini has revealed a steep learning curve.
The initial races of the season were fraught with technical difficulties, including uninspiring turn-in responses and braking issues. “Everything has been a bit delayed, and therefore we couldn’t really run much prior to the season,” Niederhauser noted, emphasizing the team’s need to adapt rapidly during early races that served more as tests than competitive events.
Despite the rough start, Niederhauser and teammate Luca Engstler secured a podium in the recent Sprint Cup races, reflecting an upward trajectory for the car’s performance. “Magny-Cours was the first race where we could have a normal weekend, eventually resulting in a podium,” Niederhauser commented, underscoring the team’s perseverance.
The current competitive landscape poses additional challenges, notably in medium to high-speed cornering, where Niederhauser indicated that the team must enhance mechanical grip. “We obviously got the help with the extra aero on the rear, which is out of homologation. For the coming year, we hope to find a way to drive within the homologation again, so that will be another new challenge,” he remarked.
As the season winds down, Niederhauser’s aspirations remain steadfast. “I hope to continue with Rutronik, keep the momentum with the car, with Lamborghini, and with the team,” he stated. Looking forward to 2027, he added, “If we keep working like that, I’m convinced we will be more regularly up front in the top 10, where the team belongs.”
The Rutronik Racing squad has demonstrated resilience throughout the countless challenges faced in 2026, maintaining high morale and a determination to progress with their new machinery. The team’s commitment to improvement sets a promising foundation as they strategize for the upcoming season.
