Mercedes Announces Kimi Antonelli as 2025 Driver in Upcoming Netflix Documentary
Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team will premiere a new documentary titled The Seat on May 5, following the Miami Grand Prix. The 45-minute feature delves into the strategic decision-making process behind promoting Kimi Antonelli to a race seat for the 2025 season, amid the departure of Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari.
Produced in collaboration with WhatsApp, the documentary captures key discussions between Team Principal Toto Wolff and Antonelli as the team navigates the significant transition. “Selecting Kimi as our race driver for 2025 was a big decision,” Wolff states. “WhatsApp played an instrumental role, facilitating private conversations that focused on Kimi’s development and our ultimate choice.”
The documentary promises to provide fans with an unprecedented look at the internal dynamics shaping this pivotal moment in Mercedes’ history, as the team describes Antonelli as a “once-in-a-generation driver.”
“I can’t wait for the world to join us on this journey,” Antonelli remarked, emphasizing the constant communication during the selection process. The documentary follows a previous collaboration with WhatsApp, Push, Push, featuring Hamilton. However, The Seat marks the first project to debut on Netflix.
As anticipation builds for the Miami Grand Prix, all eyes will be on Antonelli’s development in the lead-up to his historic debut as a full-time F1 driver.
