Damson Idris Makes a Splash at 2025 Met Gala Promoting Upcoming F1 Film
New York City, May 6, 2025 – British actor Damson Idris captured the spotlight at the 2025 Met Gala, arriving in a striking APXGP racing suit, a promotional nod to his role in the anticipated film F1. The suit, adorned with 20,000 Swarovski crystals, was dramatically removed to reveal a custom Tommy Hilfiger tuxedo, underscoring the evening’s theme, "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style."
Idris stars alongside Brad Pitt in F1, portraying rookie driver Joshua Pearce for the fictional APXGP team. Directed by Joseph Kosinski, known for Top Gun: Maverick, the film aims for authenticity, supported by seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton, who serves as a producer.
Tommy Hilfiger remarked, “We wanted Idris’s Met Gala entrance to reflect the cinematic energy our movie embodies. The transition from a racing suit to a refined tuxedo captured the essence of both motorsport and high fashion.”
Hamilton, also co-chair of the gala, reflected on his role: “It’s about collaboration and creating opportunities for Black designers. The Met is evolving, and I’m thrilled to be part of that.”
Idris emphasized the unique experience of working with Hamilton, saying, “There’s no better mentor for F1 than Lewis. His insights into the sport’s realities made a real difference in our portrayal.”
F1 premieres on June 27, 2025, promising to blend high-octane racing with compelling storytelling.
