Homestead-Miami Speedway to Host NASCAR Championship Weekend Again in 2026
NASCAR has announced that Homestead-Miami Speedway will return as the host for its championship weekend in 2026, marking a significant shift after the event was held in Phoenix since 2020. This decision comes in response to demands from drivers and fans eager to see the series return to the popular Southern Florida track, which has a rich history in the sport.
The 2026 championship will feature title-deciding races for the NASCAR Cup, Xfinity, and Truck Series. In a move aimed at increasing exposure, NASCAR also plans to implement a rotating championship weekend at various venues each year, similar to practices in other major sports.
Ben Kennedy, NASCAR’s Executive Vice President of Racing Innovation, stated, “Homestead-Miami Speedway has a history of competitive, championship racing that will provide nostalgia for veteran drivers and fans and exhilaration for NASCAR’s new generation.” He emphasized that the rotating model will introduce new challenges for competitors and opportunities for diverse venues to engage with NASCAR’s loyal fanbase.
Phoenix Raceway will retain two Cup dates in 2026 and is confirmed to host a race in the Round of 8 playoff segment, although the exact track it will replace remains undetermined.
Guillermo Santa Cruz, recently appointed track president at Homestead-Miami Speedway, remarked, “As we celebrate our 30th season, it is fitting we will start our next decade returning to our championship roots… The 2026 NASCAR Championship Weekend will offer the brightest young stars of the sport the opportunity to join the illustrious 18-year history of championship racing in South Florida.”
Homestead-Miami Speedway hosted the championship continuously from 2002 to 2019 before the finale was moved to Phoenix. The track’s legacy includes a history of competitive racing, distinguishing it as a vibrant locale for NASCAR’s season conclusion.
As NASCAR prepares to return to its championship roots, the anticipation among drivers and fans alike is palpable, setting the stage for a landmark event in 2026.
