Albon Reflects on Performance Amid Sainz’s Arrival at Williams

Williams Racing’s Alex Albon has asserted that his on-track performance remains at a consistently high level, even as the arrival of Carlos Sainz has shifted external perceptions of his capabilities. Sainz, a proven race winner signed from Ferrari for the 2025 season, joins Albon, who has been with Williams since 2022.

In a recent interview on F1’s Beyond the Grid podcast, Albon noted, “Yes, I do think [the perception] has changed. It was easy to dismiss me based on my teammates. When James [Vowles, team principal] spoke to me about Carlos joining, I felt he would be a huge asset to our team and a credible reference to gauge my performance against.”

Albon expressed confidence in his abilities, stating, “I think I’ve maybe surprised some in the paddock… but internally at Williams, they knew what I was capable of.” Despite the improved external validation, Albon emphasized that he remains committed to Williams, saying, “I love the story of Williams. I’m convinced in the project… there’s no reason why I need to look around.”

This season has seen Williams make significant advancements with their car, leading to improved results, including points finishes. Albon remarked, “I don’t think I’ve changed anything; I’ve just been given a platform to showcase what I can do.”

He further elaborated on the team dynamics, stating, “I feel like I’ve had great races last year that never got talked about because I was P18. This year, motivation is strong, and I go to every race knowing that there’s a chance to score points.”

In summary, Alex Albon’s consistent performance is being recognized externally, driven largely by team improvements and the competitive environment created by Carlos Sainz’s arrival. The Williams driver remains focused on the season ahead, committed to capitalizing on the team’s newfound momentum.
