Aston Martin Eyes Future with Adrian Newey as Team Faces 2025 Challenges

Miami, FL – Amidst a challenging 2025 season, Aston Martin’s strategic shift gears as legendary designer Adrian Newey is now at the helm as their managing technical partner. Although officially starting in March, Newey’s onboarding was perceived by two-time champion Fernando Alonso as a delay that could impact the team’s preparations for the 2026 regulations.

Alonso noted, "I think he would probably have preferred even joining the team one year ago… I’m sure that he thinks it’s late." With Aston Martin struggling for performance in the midfield, team principal Andy Cowell has ruled out involving Newey in the ongoing car development, emphasizing a focus on future projects.

Alonso, yet to score in 2025, expressed confidence in Newey’s influence on the new era: “Next year is just a continuation of some of the problems… it’s a complete reset.” He underscored that insights from Newey and other recent hires, experienced from championship-winning backgrounds, will be instrumental moving forward.

Alonso further articulated a positive outlook, stating, “There is a better understanding of where we are lacking capabilities… so I’m not too concerned for next year.” As the team aims to leverage Newey’s expertise, the focus remains firmly on overcoming the current season’s struggles while laying the groundwork for a competitive resurgence in 2026.
