Antonelli Finds Inspiration in Verstappen’s Early Career
Kimi Antonelli has credited Max Verstappen’s remarkable entry into Formula 1 as a major source of inspiration, following his own podium finish in Montreal. Verstappen made his debut at just 17 years old with Toro Rosso in 2015, where he accumulated 49 points and secured two fourth-place finishes before his rapid promotion to Red Bull.
Verstappen’s immediate success included a victory on debut for Red Bull at 18, along with six additional podiums that season. Antonelli, who recently achieved his first podium at the Canadian Grand Prix, expressed admiration for Verstappen, describing his rookie season as “astonishing.”
“Racing in F1 with the 19 other best drivers on the grid gives you a lot of motivation,” Antonelli stated. He emphasized the mentorship provided by teammate George Russell, attributing part of his development to Russell’s support during the early season.
Verstappen, noting his expectation of Antonelli’s success, remarked, “I was never in doubt that the podium would come this year,” highlighting Antonelli’s natural speed and composed demeanor as significant strengths. He added, “It’s a nice boost that will only get better.”
Both drivers recognize the challenges faced in a rookie season. Verstappen noted that learning from tough races is essential for growth, predicting further achievements for Antonelli in the years ahead.
