"Every time I chat to Fernando about this year’s car, he gives me that steamy look—checking whether we’re compromising for the future," Cowell stated ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix. He assured Alonso of the team’s focus, stating, "No, no, no, it helps for next year," emphasizing the importance of a comprehensive strategy that spans multiple seasons.
Aston Martin will transition from a customer to a works team in 2026, solidifying a new partnership with Honda for power units. Cowell acknowledged the complexities this shift entails, noting, “Our challenge of going from customer team to works team adds to that.” The upcoming season will require the integration of new components, including a complete overhaul of the car’s power unit and transmission, all scheduled for rigorous testing by January.
In addressing Alonso’s rumored visits to the Alpine garage during the Canadian Grand Prix weekend, Cowell reassured stakeholders of Alonso’s commitment, stating, "I’m happy for Fernando to wander into any garage. He knows lots of people up and down the pit lane." He added, “He’s contracted to us next year and hopefully will stay with us long term as an ambassador.”
