F1 Film Achieves Record Box Office Success

Brad Pitt’s Formula 1 film has quickly emerged as Apple’s highest-grossing release, amassing $293 million globally within 10 days of its debut. In contrast, notable Apple films such as Ridley Scott’s Napoleon and Killers of the Flower Moon generated $221 million and $158 million, respectively, underscoring the film’s impressive performance.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski, the film opened with a strong $55.6 million in North American theaters during its first weekend, contributing to a total global revenue of $144 million—significantly exceeding industry expectations. Positive critical reception and audience reviews have sustained its momentum, alongside an effective marketing strategy.

While production costs are estimated between $200 million and $300 million, the film’s box office success has already positioned it favorably for future revenue opportunities, including streaming rights. Jamie Erlicht, Apple’s head of worldwide video, praised the reception: “This success is a testament to the vision of Joe, Jerry [Bruckheimer], Brad, and [F1 champion] Lewis [Hamilton].”

Filming took place during actual Grand Prix weekends, providing the crew access to key locations, allowing the actors to engage closely with drivers like Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz. This immersive approach contributed to the film’s authentic portrayal of the sport, reminiscent of the success of Netflix’s Drive to Survive.

As Apple reflects on this landmark achievement, the critical question remains: How will they follow up this cinematic triumph?
