Martin Brundle and David Croft to Appear in Upcoming F1 Movie

Former F1 driver and current Sky Sports F1 presenter Martin Brundle has confirmed his role in the highly anticipated Formula 1 film, alongside lead commentator David Croft. Their involvement was endorsed by Lewis Hamilton, an executive producer for the film, who emphasized the need for "authentic commentary" in the production.

In a statement to The Times, Croft highlighted Hamilton’s insistence: “If you want to make it authentic commentary, you need Martin and Crofty. I really appreciated that.” The duo engaged in extensive preparation, completing five to six recording sessions, including work from a commentary box. Croft expressed optimism that their unscripted commentary would deliver a genuine feel, stating, “He’s the expert… and I’m the journalist… who’s not afraid to ask questions.”

During a recent interview in Montreal, Brundle humorously dismissed concerns about audience reviews of his cameo, stating, “I don’t care.” He also articulated hopes that the film would elevate the sport’s profile beyond the successes of Netflix’s Drive to Survive. “They wanted to finesse all the bits of action… the attention to detail was very, very impressive,” he noted.

The film is set to premiere at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, with an expected attendance of 4,000, including current F1 drivers. Brundle acknowledged the significant push from F1 and production partners Apple and Warner Bros. for enhancing the sport’s visibility. He stated, “Drive to Survive is the biggest thing in the 40-odd years I’ve been around it… It will be really interesting to see what this does.”

F1 is scheduled for international release on June 25 and will debut in North America on June 27.
