Cadillac Formula 1 Team Eyes Driver Lineup for 2026
Cadillac’s entry into Formula 1 as the 11th team in the 2024 season is generating significant buzz, particularly regarding potential drivers. Team Principal Graeme Lowdon confirmed ongoing discussions with Mick Schumacher for a contract starting in 2026.
"We’re talking to Mick," Lowdon stated during his appearance on the High Performance podcast. The team has yet to finalize its driver lineup as they prepare for their upcoming debut.
Addressing speculation about a possible return of Daniel Ricciardo, Lowdon noted, "Actually, I think he’s publicly said that he’s not interested in Formula 1." He emphasized that compelling a driver to join the team is not a priority. "If I need to convince someone, then it’s the wrong person. You never need to convince a Formula 1 driver to jump in the car."
Lowdon also revealed discussions with Mercedes reserve driver Valtteri Bottas and former Red Bull racer Sergio Perez. "Every single person, every name that you’re going to read out, we’re talking to everyone because everyone wants the drive."
The Cadillac team is under the leadership of CEO Dan Towriss and benefits from the insights of 1978 F1 champion Mario Andretti on its board. Lowdon reiterated that the team’s focus is on building a competitive platform, stating, "The driver is there to do the best they possibly can for their team, and they should be motivated for the team around them."
As Cadillac gears up for its inaugural season, the search for a balanced mix of talent and ambition continues.
