Alpine Racing Makes Strategic Change as Jack Doohan Returns to Reserve Role
Alpine F1 Team has announced a significant lineup adjustment ahead of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, replacing Jack Doohan with Franco Colapinto for the next five races. This decision comes as speculation about Colapinto’s promotion has circulated since he was signed as a reserve driver in January.
Doohan, who has had a challenging start to his F1 career, expressed gratitude for the opportunity provided by Alpine. Despite his recent struggles, including a best finish of 13th in China and early retirements in both Melbourne and Miami, Doohan acknowledged the difficulty of returning to a reserve role. "I will forever be grateful to the team for helping me achieve this dream," he remarked. "This latest chapter is a tough one… as a professional driver, naturally, I want to be racing."
Alpine’s team will conduct a driver evaluation ahead of the British Grand Prix in July, as part of ongoing efforts to solidify their competitive standing. Doohan aims to support the team while pursuing his personal goals in the interim.
Colapinto’s debut will mark a pivotal moment in his career as he steps up to replace Doohan, who has only participated in seven races to date. The outcome of this change will be closely observed as Alpine aims for improved performance in the upcoming races.
