Formula 1 Extends Canadian Grand Prix Contract to 2035

Montreal, Canada – Formula 1 confirmed the renewal of its contract for the Canadian Grand Prix at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, extending its stay on the calendar until 2035. This extension adds six years to the previous agreement, which was set to expire in 2031, and includes a long-term renewal of media rights with Bell Media.

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali highlighted the significance of the extension in light of the sport’s 75th anniversary: “Montreal is an incredible city, full of energy and passionate fans. I look forward to creating more unforgettable moments here over the next 10 years.”

Race promoter Jean-Philippe Paradis emphasized the event’s iconic status and the commitment to enhancing the race experience for fans and stakeholders. “We’re thrilled to offer fans 10 more years of world-class racing,” Paradis stated, noting a three-year improvement plan aimed at addressing operational challenges and enhancing hospitality.

In a strategic move, the grand prix will shift from its traditional June date to late May, aligning closer with the Miami Grand Prix. This change is part of efforts to streamline operations and improve access to the event.

Paradis acknowledged the transitions and challenges faced by the race: “There’s a path for us to get there, and we wanted to showcase that there is some improvement,” he said, referencing the updated access routes being developed to alleviate traffic congestion.
