Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix – FP1 Report

Miami, FL – Oscar Piastri of McLaren topped the timesheets in the sole practice session for the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix, posting a lap of 1:27.128 before a red flag halted the action due to an incident involving Haas driver Oliver Bearman.

The session began with Mercedes’ George Russell leading early with a 1:28.488 on medium tires, a time that he later improved to 1:28.058. Max Verstappen of Red Bull, fresh from celebrating the birth of his first child, also made a notable impact, testing a new floor design and briefly rising to the top before Piastri’s final run.

As the session progressed, Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz and Williams’ Alex Albon began their soft tire qualifying simulations. However, it was Piastri’s stellar performance that ultimately secured the fastest lap, with fellow competitors Verstappen and Charles Leclerc of Ferrari finishing second and third, respectively.

The session was cut short with four minutes remaining when Bearman’s car spun into the barriers, preventing several frontrunners, including Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton, from setting more competitive times.

In summary, the top ten standings from FP1 are as follows:

  1. Oscar Piastri (McLaren) – 1:27.128
  2. Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) – 1:27.434
