FIA Grants Superlicence to Arvid Lindblad Ahead of Schedule
The FIA has officially granted Red Bull Racing’s Arvid Lindblad permission to obtain an FIA superlicence before his upcoming 18th birthday on August 8, 2025. This decision allows the 17-year-old to participate in Formula 1 activities as an additional reserve driver for the team.
Lindblad’s request was endorsed during the World Motor Sport Council meeting in Macau, leveraging a clause in the FIA’s International Sporting Code. The Council acknowledged Lindblad’s consistent performance and maturity in single-seater competitions as the basis for the exemption.
An FIA statement confirmed, "After considering the information presented in support of this request, the World Council found that the driver has recently and consistently demonstrated outstanding ability and maturity in single-seater formula car competition and therefore approved the request."
With this approval, Lindblad joins current reserve driver Ayumu Iwasa, currently competing in Super Formula, providing Red Bull with additional options during a critical period. Notably, Max Verstappen is just one penalty point away from a race ban, intensifying the need for reliable backup.
Lindblad’s recent success includes winning his first Formula 2 feature race in Spain, positioning him third in the championship standings. His upcoming schedule likely includes several FP1 sessions, paving the way for a potential graduation to F1 by 2026.
This strategic move not only highlights Red Bull’s investment in young talent but also reflects the evolving landscape of driver eligibility in premier motorsport categories.
