Hamilton Backs Vasseur Amid Ferrari Struggles

Lewis Hamilton has voiced his support for Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur amidst speculation regarding the latter’s position within the team. Following a challenging start to the 2023 season, Ferrari is currently 197 points behind leaders McLaren, despite holding second place in the constructors’ championship.

Hamilton, who joined Ferrari at the start of the season, emphasized Vasseur’s critical role in his decision to join the iconic team. Ahead of this weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix, Hamilton stated, "Fred’s the main reason I’m in this team and I got the opportunity to be here, which I’m forever grateful for."

Addressing the pressure surrounding Vasseur’s potential departure, Hamilton described the rumors as "nonsense" and asserted, “I want Fred here. I do believe Fred is the person to take us to the top.” He added that while the internal situation may seem tumultuous, it is manageable and requires time for adjustment.

Hamilton, currently sixth in the drivers’ championship, expressed confidence in his future with Ferrari, stating, "I’m here for several years, and I’m here for the long haul." He acknowledged the need for changes within the team and the pressure to succeed but reiterated his commitment to collaborative improvement.

The seven-time world champion’s remarks reflect a concerted effort to stabilize team dynamics as Ferrari strives to close the gap with McLaren this season. Hamilton remarked, “It looks a lot worse outside than it probably is on the inside,” underscoring the complexity of understanding the team’s trajectory from an external viewpoint.
