Lewis Hamilton plays a pivotal role in the creation of F1: The Movie, leveraging Apple’s cutting-edge camera technology to deliver an authentic portrayal of Formula 1 racing. The film, produced by Apple Original Films under the direction of Joseph Kosinski and veteran producer Jerry Bruckheimer, utilizes components from the iPhone 15 Pro to craft specialized cameras for filming on a Formula 2 racing car.

Hamilton emphasized the project’s focus on authenticity, stating, “We needed that technology and we needed that camera…and they’ve created these new cameras.” The engineering team incorporated A17 Pro chips and 48-megapixel sensors, allowing for an immersive visual experience. This technical evolution is essential for viewers to feel the adrenaline of racing, noted Hamilton: “You actually feel the speed, you feel…[the] rush.”

Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, highlighted the company’s commitment to merging technology with the arts, expressing pride in the project: “If you’re going to do a movie about F1, you’ve got to feel that you’re in the car.” Filming took place during live Grand Prix weekends, ensuring that lead actors Brad Pitt and Damson Idris experienced the realities of race conditions firsthand.

Hamilton’s involvement extends beyond technical oversight; he described the film’s emotional impact, sharing that it inspired him as a fan: “I’m watching it, and I’m like, wow…you get the goosebumps.”

The film is currently in theaters, earning praise for its authentic portrayal of the high-speed world of Formula 1.
