Isack Hadjar: The Rising Star of Formula 1’s Rookie Class
Isack Hadjar, the 20-year-old driver for Racing Bulls, has earned the title of "most impressive rookie" as declared by Red Bull motorsport advisor Dr. Helmut Marko. Currently, Hadjar ranks ninth in the 2025 Formula 1 drivers’ standings with 21 points, making him the second-highest scorer amongst rookies, behind Mercedes’ Andrea Kimi Antonelli.
Marko noted Hadjar’s rapid adaptability to new circuits, asserting, "He comes to a circuit which he doesn’t know, and within three laps, he is competitive. He’s a regular Q3 qualifier." Hadjar’s humor and personality also contribute to his growing reputation, as highlighted by Marko during a recent appearance on The Inside Track.
Hadjar joined a competitive rookie class that includes notable names like Antonelli, Oliver Bearman at Haas, Gabriel Bortoleto at Sauber, and Jack Doohan at Alpine—who has since been replaced by Franco Colapinto. Liam Lawson also began the season at Red Bull but moved to Racing Bulls after two races.
Despite individual successes, Red Bull Racing faces challenges, currently sitting fourth in the constructors’ standings—218 points behind McLaren. Max Verstappen has accumulated 137 of the team’s total 144 points, underscoring a significant disparity in performance.
Following Lawson’s departure, Yuki Tsunoda has stepped into the team’s second seat but has struggled to match Verstappen’s pace. Team principal Christian Horner emphasized Tsunoda’s need for time to assimilate, stating, "It’s early days for Yuki. He’s still settling in…We’ll decide. We’ve got plenty of time on our side.”
In light of Hadjar’s performance, talks have emerged regarding a potential move to Red Bull. However, some analysts, including Sky Sports presenter Simon Lazenby, caution against such a transition, suggesting it could jeopardize Hadjar’s career trajectory. Nevertheless, Red Bull has reiterated its commitment to developing Tsunoda.
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Hadjar as he continues to prove his mettle in a challenging F1 landscape.
