Christian Horner Ends Tenure with Red Bull Racing After Two Decades
Christian Horner has formally concluded his tenure with Red Bull Racing, accepting a severance package estimated between $70 million and $100 million, following his dismissal as team principal in July.
Oliver Mintzlaff, CEO Corporate Projects and Investments, acknowledged Horner’s significant contributions over the last 20 years, stating, “With his tireless commitment, experience, expertise, and innovative thinking, he has been instrumental in establishing Red Bull Racing as one of the most successful and attractive teams in Formula 1.”
Horner led Red Bull from its inception in 2005, securing six Constructors’ Championships, eight Drivers’ titles, 124 Grand Prix victories, and 107 pole positions. His tenure earned him a reported annual salary of €12 million ($14.1 million USD), with a contract extending until 2030.
Reportedly, Horner could return to Formula 1 with another team as soon as 2024. In his farewell statement, he reflected, “Leading Red Bull Racing has been an honor and privilege. I’m incredibly proud of what we achieved as a team, breaking records and reaching heights no one would ever believe were possible.”
With Laurent Mekies stepping in as his successor, Horner’s departure marks a significant transition for a team that has redefined success in modern motorsport.
