Sergio Perez Confident Ahead of Formula 1 Return with Cadillac in 2026

Sergio Perez, set to return to Formula 1 with Cadillac in 2026, asserts he has no point to prove after his previous tenure with Red Bull. Perez joins Valtteri Bottas in Cadillac’s inaugural driver lineup, collectively boasting 16 wins and 527 race starts.

Reflecting on his departure from Red Bull, Perez emphasized the challenges faced by second drivers in competitive teams, referencing current struggles experienced by Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda. “I don’t feel like there’s anything to prove,” he stated. “It’s a very unique challenge… when you see the amount of points they’ve scored, it’s like five points in the entire season.”

Perez, who has not participated in F1 this season, noted the importance of his time away from the sport. He indicated that this break allowed him to reassess his passion and motivation for racing. “Instead of jumping into something just to stay on the grid, I needed that time,” he said.

He expressed enthusiasm about Cadillac’s approach, highlighting the project’s allure beyond just pursuing podium finishes. “I realized that I enjoy training! I’ve been in the same shape… there are plans with the team to test a Formula 1 car before the end of the year,” he confirmed.

As preparations begin for the 2026 season, Perez stated, “I know what Formula 1 is about, and I will be ready to deliver from the first race onwards.”
