Potential Sequel to F1 Movie Announced by Jerry Bruckheimer Amid Positive Pre-Release Buzz

Hollywood producer Jerry Bruckheimer has hinted at the possibility of a sequel to the much-anticipated Formula 1 film, even before its official release. In a conversation with TODAY’s Jonathan Kearsley, Bruckheimer suggested that performance metrics will dictate the future of the franchise, revealing, "Now, if you talk us up, a lot of people come see it, we’ll figure out how to make another one."

The inaugural film, featuring stars Brad Pitt and Damson Idris, was directed by Joseph Kosinski with a budget exceeding $200 million. Notably, it received input from F1 icon Lewis Hamilton, underscoring the film’s authenticity and dedication to the sport.

Bruckheimer expressed enthusiasm for potentially launching a sequel at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, stating, "Melbourne’s a track that we didn’t get to go to… it would be a great way to kick off a sequel."

In terms of box office projections, early estimates suggest the film could earn between $56-72 million domestically during its opening weekend. With an impressive pre-release marketing campaign and an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, expectations are high. Bruckheimer highlighted the film’s strong reception, noting, "It’s the highest-rating movie that I’ve had as far as recommending it to your friends… ‘Definitely recommend’ at 80%. It’s unbelievable."

Early test screenings have further indicated a positive shift in audience interest towards F1, with Apple executive Eddy Cue reporting that nearly every viewer expressed a desire to attend a live race after watching the film.

Set for global release on June 25, with the U.S. debut two days later, the F1 movie promises to bring significant attention to the sport, potentially expanding its fan base worldwide.
