Sergio Perez Eyes F1 Return, Gains Support from Jonathan Wheatley

In the shifting landscape of Formula 1, Sergio Perez’s potential return is gathering traction, bolstered by endorsements from industry figures including Sauber team principal Jonathan Wheatley. Perez, whose Red Bull contract ended at the close of the 2024 season, has engaged in discussions with teams such as Cadillac and Alpine regarding future opportunities.

Wheatley, a former sporting director at Red Bull, commended Perez’s capabilities and character. "Firstly, I really enjoyed working with Checo. He’s a great personality and has an excellent attitude toward life," Wheatley remarked, emphasizing Perez’s impressive pace and adaptability.

After a hiatus from competitive racing, Perez expressed a rekindled sense of purpose. "I feel like I’m in a privileged position… I’m only coming back if the project makes sense and is something I can enjoy," he stated. The driver acknowledged the sacrifices inherent to an F1 career, asserting that personal motivation is essential for a successful return.

Cadillac F1’s team principal Graeme Lowdon confirmed that discussions with Perez are ongoing, alongside talks with other notable drivers such as Valtteri Bottas and Mick Schumacher. As Perez evaluates his options, the motorsports community watches closely for his next career move.
