Haas F1 Team Celebrates Milestone Amid Midfield Battle

Montreal, Canada – At the Canadian Grand Prix, Haas F1 Team marked a significant milestone by competing in its 200th Grand Prix, a notable achievement considering the team’s tumultuous journey since its debut in 2016. This event was celebrated with a special rendition of its original livery, showcasing the resurgence of a team that faced near extinction during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Under the leadership of team principal Ayao Komatsu, who stepped into the role last year, Haas has evolved from a struggling underdog to a competitive midfield player. Following a challenging 2023 season, the team has established itself as a contender in 2024, currently holding sixth place in the Constructors’ Championship.

Reflecting on the journey, Komatsu stated, "I still remember 10 years ago—lots of ups and downs since then, but now I’m really proud that we are here. 200 races, and fighting in the midfield. It’s something all of us in the team should be proud of."

Despite these improvements, Haas’s performance remains inconsistent, often influenced by inherent balance issues within the car. This variability is exacerbated by a tightly contested midfield where minor lapses can have substantial impacts on results. The team’s new driver lineup, including Esteban Ocon and rookie Oliver Bearman, has collectively achieved seven points-scoring finishes this season. Ocon, in particular, has emerged as a standout performer.

Ocon noted the challenges of maintaining consistency, remarking, "If we had the answer to our inconsistencies, I don’t think we’d be in this situation. We need to work on our weaknesses, especially regarding understeer."

While Haas aims to enhance its competitive edge, it also contends with a demanding job market in Formula 1, necessitating a vibrant team environment for talent retention. Komatsu emphasized the significance of infrastructural upgrades in fostering a positive workplace culture, including the recent introduction of a new two-story motorhome.

“Every aspect matters in this hyper-competitive environment,” Komatsu affirmed. “It’s about creating a positive working atmosphere that attracts and retains talent.”

As the 2025 season approaches with Cadillac’s entry into the paddock as a potential 11th team, Haas faces intensified competition. Komatsu confirmed that the team is weighing upgrades to its Banbury base while balancing immediate performance gains against long-term strategic goals, especially with the looming regulations for 2026.

"The challenge lies in balancing our focus on this year’s car while also considering future regulations," Ocon added. "The midfield is tighter than ever, and we must maximize our current potential."

As the season progresses, Haas remains committed to seizing opportunities, with both drivers emphasizing the need for continuous improvement to stay competitive in a rapidly evolving grid.
